About
Yentl
We estimate her age to be around 8 or 9 and of unknown pony breed, but we’d love to hear your best guesses.
Yentl, along with her herd mate Flicka, came to live with us a few months ago, after our dear friend Saskia left this world on December 11th.
Saskia adopted Yentl around 2016 as a flighty and unhandled pony. She started a program of gentle training using the clicker training method, and you can find many more pictures and fun videos if you visit the Facebook page Saskia created called Clicker Training Yentl.

Although Saskia did a fair bit of teaching Yentl to get her well started, when Saskia became ill, Yentl’s training was less consistent. She stands quietly to have her feet trimmed, can be haltered and led, and loves to do tricks and be engaged with learning and games, especially at liberty. She is brave, curious, sassy, and pony smart.
The earlier pictures of her show how much darker grey her colouring was when she was young. Now she is almost pure white. The change is evident in the pictures of her beautiful eye.
As I write about Yentl today, my heart reminds me to consider the changes she has endured over the years, and the recent loss of her friend and companion, Saskia. I think of both her and Flicka when I observe them in the herd and hope that they feel safe here and know they are loved and belong. As in the book The Boy, The Mole, The Fox, and The Horse by Charlie Macksey, "I'm glad we are all here." We are so glad you are here, too.”
